Model Description
Introduced in 1932, the Leica Standard was a simple interchangeable-lens model without a built-in rangefinder. It used the standardized 39mm screw mount and retained a conventional optical viewfinder. Its accessory shoe was positioned above the lens axis, allowing a separate rangefinder or alternative finder to be mounted conveniently. The camera was therefore usable either by scale focusing or with external focusing equipment. Black enamel with nickel fittings was common on early examples, with chrome finishes appearing later. The Standard continued the basic Leica I arrangement while the Leica II and III added coupled focusing and additional shutter functions.
