Model Description
The Leica CL was a compact M-bayonet rangefinder developed by Leitz in cooperation with Minolta and manufactured in Japan. It used a through-the-lens CdS exposure meter on a swinging arm in front of the shutter, following the general measuring principle used in the M5. The finder carried frames suited to 40mm, 50mm and 90mm lenses, and the 40mm f/2 Summicron-C was the standard lens most closely associated with the camera. The CL provided an M-mount camera substantially smaller and less expensive than the contemporary full-size Leica bodies. Minolta later developed the related CLE.
