Model Description
The Leica M7 introduced an electronically controlled shutter to the M film rangefinder and added aperture-priority automatic exposure. With the shutter dial at AUTO, the photographer selected the aperture and the camera set a continuously variable shutter speed. Manual shutter-speed selection remained available. Most speeds require electrical power, but 1/60 and 1/125 second can operate mechanically as emergency settings. The camera also retained TTL metering and flash functions. The M7 was therefore the first 35mm M to make automatic exposure an integral part of normal operation while retaining manual focusing and the optical rangefinder.
