Model Description
The Leica M4 revised the handling of the traditional meterless M body. Its 0.72× finder provided frames for 35mm, 50mm, 90mm and 135mm lenses. A new rapid-loading arrangement eliminated the removable take-up spool used by earlier M cameras. Rewinding was accelerated by an angled folding crank, while the film-advance lever gained an articulated end section. The shutter remained mechanical and no exposure meter was incorporated. These film-handling and control changes were retained, in modified form, by the M4-2, M4-P and original M6.
