Model Description
The Leica MD removed both the rangefinder and viewfinder from the M body. It was intended to work as a photographic component in microscopes, reproduction equipment, Visoflex systems and other apparatus with an independent method of composing and focusing. The body retained the M bayonet, shutter and film transport but had a plain upper housing in place of the normal optical system. Special technical arrangements could also be used for recording identifying information. The MD continued the function previously served by finderless screw-mount cameras such as the Ic, If and Ig.
