Model Description
The Leica M2-M was the first factory production M body specifically prepared for an electric motor. Its development followed work by the New York engineer Norman Goldberg, whose motor design was taken up by E. Leitz New York. 275 M2-M cameras were made in the recorded factory group. The motor attached beneath the body and drove the film transport through a modified mechanism. The camera could also operate manually with the motor removed. The M2-M provided the immediate technical basis for the M4-M and subsequent M4 motor cameras.
