Model Description

The Leica IIIg was the final major development of the screw-mount rangefinder. Its principal change was a considerably larger bright-line viewfinder containing markings for 50mm and 90mm lenses. The framing system compensated for parallax as the lens was focused. The rangefinder itself remained a separate optical system, so focusing and framing still required different eyepieces. Mechanically, the camera retained the 39mm screw mount, 1/1000-second maximum shutter and separate slow-speed control inherited from earlier III models. Later specialist variants account for the unusually broad recorded date range and do not indicate uninterrupted production throughout it.
