Model Description

The Compur-Leica, also known as the Leica Model B, was introduced in 1926 as an alternative to the focal-plane-shutter Leica. Its 50mm f/3.5 Elmar was mounted with a Compur leaf shutter providing speeds from approximately one second to 1/300 second. The arrangement supplied the slow timed exposures missing from the earliest Model A. Film advance and shutter cocking were separate operations, and there was no mechanical prevention of double exposure. Dial-set and later rim-set Compur versions were made. The design remained a separate branch of Leica development; subsequent mainstream models continued with the focal-plane shutter.
